On July 10, 2023, the Inaugural JSC-ELHT Video Contest was held in Japanese Society and Culture (JSC) courses for second year students who belong to the English Language Honors Track (ELHT). This event was co-hosted by JSC-ELHT instructors (Curtis Chu and Mariko Takahashi) and Innovation in English Education Group of the English teachers’ committee at the Faculty of International Studies. Twenty-six students participated in the contest and produced eight videos in groups on Japanese society and culture. The assigned themes were business and economy, social problems, tourism, traditional culture, and popular culture. Students worked closely with their group members and produced informative and creative videos with thorough editing. We welcomed Professor Torii as the head judge, and he and Professor Chu evaluated the videos. Students also voted for their favorite video. Awards were given to the following teams.
1st place: Team Rainbow on LGBTQ issues
2nd place: Team Maki-zushi on sightseeing spots in Nara and Osaka
3rd place: Team Miky on university students’ daily routine and Japanese economy
Peer review award: Team Mizugumo Galaxy on unique cafes in Japan
We had a great time together in a lively atmosphere. Congratulations to the winners of the contest, and we are looking forward to the next time.
2023年7月10日、「第1回JSC-ELHT動画コンテスト」を開催しました。このコンテストは、2年生必修のJapanese Society and Culture (JSC)の授業のうち、English Language Honors Track (ELHT)に所属する学生を対象としたクラス内で、JSC-ELHTの担当者（カーティス・チュウ、高橋真理子）と国際学部英語委員会の先端英語教育グループの共催で行われました。コンテストには26名の学生が参加し、日本の社会や文化に関するビデオを、8グループに分かれて制作しました。事前に定められたテーマは、ビジネス・経済、社会問題、観光、伝統文化、ポピュラーカルチャーでした。学生たちはグループメンバーと協力し、情報豊富でクリエイティブな動画を、しっかりとした編集を行って完成させました。審査員長は鳥居先生で、チュウ先生と一緒に、学生たちのビデオの評価をお願いしました。また、学生たちも相互評価を行い、一番良かった動画に投票を行いました。受賞チームは以下の通りです。
第1位 Team Rainbow (LGBTQについて)
第2位 Team Maki-zushi (奈良と大阪の観光地について)
第3位 Team Miky (大学生の日常と日本経済について)
ピアレビュー賞 Team Mizugumo Galaxy (日本のユニークなカフェについて)
